Bra Fitting
IS IT TRUE THAT AROUND 80% OF WOMEN ARE WEARING THE WRONG SIZE BRA?

Yes, 70-85% of women wear the wrong size bra.

HOW DO I KNOW IF MY BRA IS THE WRONG SIZE?
      • Does your bra ride up your back?
      • Do you bulge in the cup?
      • Do you have pleating in the cup?
      • Does your bra leave red marks where the band sits?

If you answered yes to any of these you are wearing the wrong size bra.

WHY DOES IT MATTER WHETHER MY BRA IS THE RIGHT SIZE OR NOT?

A badly fitting bra can cause:

      • premature breast tissue damage
      • back muscles to become weak and stretched
      • Squashed lymph nodes hindering your immune system
      • numbness in your fingers by compression of nerves crossing your shoulders
      • your clothes to look ill-fitting by not lifting and supporting your breasts properly

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE BENEFITS OF WEARING A CORRECTLY FITTING BRA?
      • lifting and supporting the breasts makes your shape appear more youthful
      • moving the breasts forward to the front of your chest makes you appear slimmer
      • tailored clothing will fit better if breasts are sitting half way between the shoulder and the elbow and in the centre of your chest
      • reduced neck and back pain
      • prevents tissue break down (slows down the effects of gravity)

HOW DO I MEASURE MY SIZE?

Using a tape measure with Inch increments firstly measure your band size. This is done be measuring around your ribcage just underneath the breast. The tape measure should be pulled tightly, but shouldn't be uncomfortable.

Take the measurement e.g. 34 inches. Now, this is not your size there is another step involved. If you have an even number add 4 to it and if you have an odd number add 5 to it. So a measurement of 33 inches = 38 and a measurement of 34 inches = 38.

Now that you have the band size we need a second measurement. You should take this measurement whilst wearing a non-padded bra. Put the tape measure around the apex (fullest) part of your breast and with arms at your side take the measurement. The tape should be held snugly, but not too tight. Make sure the tape is horizontal.

Now that you have the measurements we can determine your size:

  • Band Size = Cup Measurement = A cup
  • Band Size + 1 = Cup Measurement = B cup
  • Band Size + 2 = Cup Measurement = C cup
  • Band Size + 3 = Cup Measurement = D Cup
  • Band Size + 4 = Cup Measurement = DD Cup
  • Band Size + 5 = Cup Measurement = E Cup
  • Band Size + 6 = Cup Measurement = EE Cup
  • Band Size + 7 = Cup Measurement = F Cup

For example -

Band Size        Cup Measurement         Bra Size

38                         40                         38C  (16C)

34                         34                          34A  (12A)

36                         40                         36DD (14DD)

HOW DO I CONVERT THE MEASUREMENTS TO AUSTRALIAN SIZES?
  • 30 =   8
  • 32 = 10
  • 34 = 12
  • 36 = 14
  • 38 = 16
  • 40 = 18
  • 42 = 20
  • 44 = 22
  • 46 = 24

HOW MANY BRAS SHOULD I HAVE?

Of course, there is no magic number. But, a rough guide is - 3 or 4 everyday bras, which allows you to have one on, one in the wash and one or two ready to wear. Everybody should have a sports bra regardless of what sort of physical activity you do. A convertible bra is another must and then a couple of lacy sets. So, an ideal lingerie drawer will have at least 7 or 8 bras.

HOW LONG SHOULD A BRA LAST?

An Intimo Lingerie Bra will provide good support and shape for approximately 100 wears (that's 3 wears per week for 6 weeks). Regular washing will extend the life of your bra. Perfumes and perspiration lodge in the fibres and create friction which causes the material to breakdown.
